An Evening With
Andrew Harrison
Andrew Harrison began his acting career with the York-based Riding Lights Theatre Company. He has toured with them throughout the UK and to India, Holland, Switzerland and California. He made his West End debut in 1992, and his numerous TV credits include The Bill, Miss Marple, and Birds of a Feather, and the films A Sea Change and An Ideal Husband. He contributes regularly to BBC Radio. He is also a Lay Reader at his parish church.
His one-man show At Your Service is the story of Harry Anderson, the gung-ho, man-with-a-mission sent to thrust any and every timid and lacklustre church slap-bang into the hi-tech, super-efficient world of the twenty-first century. From the first fluffed line, however, to the tell-tale mopping of his shiny brow, it soon becomes apparent that all is not well with Harry. Unwittingly, unwillingly, he is led into the heart of realities whose existence he would prefer to deny -- and to the heart of hearts beyond. Intended primarily for teenagers, this show offers encouragement for all who are challenged by contemporary uncertainties. It takes you deep into the shadows of one man's experience and out into the sunshine.
'An evening of outstanding entertainment' (Harborough Mail)
'I thought it was superb' (Jonathan Gray, Barclays International).
The Last Cuckoo is a solo piece written by Nigel Forde of Riding Lights. It is an environmental play, and though it does not contain an explicit Christian message, it is an intensely moving and thought-provoking play that has been used very effectively by churches in appropriate contexts.
'Beautifully comic -- I cried with laughter' (Simon Mayo)
'A discussion about our stewardship of creation ... thoroughly entertaining ... a tour de force' ( Andrew Mathewson, Baptist Times).
'A hypnotic and surprising show -- a huge pleasure'
(Alan Bates: Patron, The Actors' Centre)
